    Getting in to the Academy

I am a junior in high schoo and have just begun to talk to my counselor about going to the academy. I wish to fly in the air force as a career and this seems to be the best way to go. I have about a 3.5 accumalitive GPA, I havent taken the ACT or SAT yet which I really need to do, I have played baseball for all of my high school career and one year of football, and I started my own business. I am in the process of contacting my liason officer and some cadets at the academy and I was wondering what else should I do to increase my chances of getting in. I fear I may have started too late yet I know it is still possible for me to get in. I really think I am the kind of person they are looking for, athletic and smart, but I need to do some more things in the area of their "leadership," and "integrity" requirements. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Re: Getting in to the Academy

Hello, I am too on a similar quest, I am in 10th grade and have done extensive reseach. You must excel in Science and Math classes, be Physically Fit, being able to do 1.5 miles in 12 minutes, 50 pushups and situps in 2 minutes. They also look for a whole person to be a fighter pilot. This means, intelligent, plays sports, has an after school activity that benefits the community like Boy Scouts or Girl Scouts. Your grades should be in the 90's, you just don't automatically become a fighter pilot, your put in a class of 8-10 and then they take the top 2-3 to become fighter/bomber pilots, the rest become refuelers or transport pilots. You must have a set mind and be committed.  If you have most of this you have a good chance.

As for your leadership, join the Student Council. Volunteer work is a MUST! to have a high chance of getting in.

Talk to any Military Academy Recruiter, not a Liason, it doesn't matter what Academy most have similar requirements, I met with one from Westpoint, I told him my current everything and what I'm doing. He told me to get my Eagle (I'm in Boy Scouts) He said an Eagle in your application is a Super Plus for chances getting in. My grades were fine, and he wanted me to run more. So all you need to do is meet with a recruiter and talk to them. They should get you set.

I am also very very interested in getting into the USAFA and I am wondering what kind of math courses I should take.  The reason I am asking this is because I am thinking of instead of doing geometry I would go to college algebra/trig then to pre calc or calc.  Is this a smart decision or should I go ahead and take geometry then college algebra/trig??

I am a sophomore right now and I am in geometry.  I am taking Algebra 2 over the summer so I can graduate with calculus.  Take something over the summer so you can get ahead.
